Description

As an Agency you provide an essential public service through saving lives and protecting commerce. Very often this contribution to communities is not recognized and appreciated. Through research, education, training, recognition, and awards, PSA will help Agencies achieve their goals of providing public safety and mobility while giving the profession the reputation it deserves.

COMMUNITY

Professional Snowfighters Association is a North American based non-profit professional association dedicated to creating a community of safe and sustainable practice for all who are involved in the activities of winter maintenance. By becoming a member your agency and your employees join that community. As a member you can tap into the expertise of people around North America (and elsewhere) in winter maintenance, participate in training and awards programs, and join online forums to help build safe and sustainable practices.

TRAINING

One of the challenges for anyone in winter maintenance is finding the time to read lengthy research reports and pull from them the critical information needed to better their operations. This is one area where PSA is taking the lead, by distilling those reports down to single page documents, highlighting key facts and actions contained therein.  At a glance you will be able to see if the new methods, materials, equipment, sensors or strategies make sense for your agency as not all of them will be suitable for every agency. The single pages link to full length resources where in-depth information can be gleaned. Topics can range from salt storage, sustainable application of chemicals, use of brine to key safety issues and everything in between.

PSA offers a variety of training tools geared towards the needs of practitioners. These tools range from our one-pagers to training sessions, one day workshops and seminars, and webinars. Because PSA is a small independent association it can be flexible in where training sessions can be held. It is possible for the team to go to a city and reach out to the smaller agencies nearby who may not have the resources to attend large events. PSA also works in conjunction with larger associations.

What will the topics for these one-day events be? Well, we will bring you new ideas but we will also be responding to your needs and requests. One of the actions which makes PSA a community is regular (but very short – no more than three questions) surveys (on a monthly basis, at least initially). In these surveys we will be asking what YOU need to know about so that you can be sure the training we offer is geared to your needs, and not what we think you ought to know. In that way, we can build our community more effectively to be a real resource for you. The association is about you – the winter maintenance professional – and as such exists to meet your needs

As a member agency you will automatically receive a 25% discount on the registration fees for any of your employees attending a PSA training session.

AWARD PROGRAM

Membership will enable you to go through the Agency Evaluation Program hosted by PSA. This self-assessment allows you to determine how your agency is progressing in safe and sustainable winter maintenance practices. There is an automated on-line process that allows you to conduct this self-assessment, and upon completion you will receive an Award indicating your successful participation in this program. Note that only member agencies will be able to access and conduct the self-assessment.

WEBSITE

The website is the hub of the community of good practice, a focal point where members can share thoughts and suggestions. It will include a number of forums in which discussion of the challenges of winter maintenance in various areas (e.g. materials, equipment, environmental concerns, and others as determined by you, the members) will be held. From these forums we expect to develop ideas for webinars and training which will be shared and made fully available only to PSA members.

Members will also be able to read the Cutting Edge, a monthly newsletter and the Safety Shot, which highlights a single safety question each month and can be used for an in-house discussion on that topic.

STORE

Members will have access to the PSA store. While this may not seem very important it will be the only way to acquire a variety of must-have products for you, the Professional Snowfighter!
